“Who Can Be Trusted?”
Luke 16:1-13

Sometimes, not very often, when I sit down to write my sermon, I wonder, “What was I thinking when I picked this one?” This week was one of those weeks.

We have this reading that most people aren’t really sure what to do with. Jesus tells a story of a property manager who is a cheat. He rips off his boss. He rips off the suppliers. He rips off the customers. He just can’t be trusted.

When word of his cheatin’ ways gets back to the boss, he’s getting fired. The boss wants to see the books, and it better be fast. read more…

Build a Mighty Fortress – Louisburg Anniversary Sermon, Sept 12, 2010

“Building A Mighty Fortress”
2 Timothy 4:1-5, Matthew 28:16-21

Like many people, I’ve been to Louisburg before. If I remember, you’ve got some sort of museum here or something that people like to go to.

I guess I’ve been to the fortress three times. Once on a family vacation a long time ago, once on my grade 6 school trip, and I brought my own family here earlier this summer for their first experience of the great history of the area.

I quite enjoy the walk through the history of the place. Everyone in character, doing the best they can to present the 18th century to the visitors from all over the world. They wear the o so comfortable clothing of the day. They recount the stories and history of the site, and for the entire maritime region as it played a significant role in the new world in those days. read more…

“Seek and Be Sought”
Luke 15:1-10

We’ve all lost something we value haven’t we? We’ve lost our keys, maybe some jewellery. Some of us might have lost our wallets with our id’s in them. We may have lost some money. Our children have lost toys, mittens, shoes.

Have you ever pulled your winter coat out of the closet in October, worn it on for the first time, put your hand in the pocket and pulled out a twenty dollar bill? It’s like winning the lottery! Never mind it was already your money, but still it feels pretty good! read more…
