“Riches”
August 5, 2007 – Luke 12:13-21

I’d like to share a story called “The Rich Family in Church” by Eddie Ogan

I’ll never forget Easter 1946. I was 14, my little sister Ocy was 12, and my older sister Darlene 16. We lived at home with our mother, and the four of us knew what it was to do without many things. My dad had died five years before, leaving Mom with seven school kids to raise and no money.

By 1946 my older sisters were married and my brothers had left home. A month before Easter the pastor of our church announced that a special Easter offering would be taken to help a poor family. He asked everyone to save and give sacrificially. read more…

“For What Do We Pray?”
July 29, 2007 – Luke 11:1-13

In a Kentucky church, the congregation watched an especially verbal and boisterous child being hurried out, slung under his irate father’s arm. “The Better Part”
July 22, 2007 – Luke 10:38-42

The mayor of a small town in Kentucky stopped mowing his lawn in 2005. He has put up a sign on his property that reads: “There are more important things in life than tall grass.”

He said that he has several reasons for not cutting the grass, one of which is his wife’s death from cancer. That loss caused him to reflect on the priorities of life. He enjoys just sitting in the evenings and observing the wild flowers, squirrels, and birds that are now coming to his yard. A member of the city council remarked, “If he likes it like that, it’s fine. I kind of feel like maybe he is right. Maybe there are more important things than mowing grass.” read more…

“Neighbours and Neighbourhoods”
July 15, 2007 – Luke 10:25-37

There are many stories and sayings that we encounter on a regular basis which can be found in the Bible. “Give the clothes off one’s back”, “turn the other cheek”, “walk a mile in another’s shoes”, and many more. Often the term is often used quite differently today from its original intent! read more…

“The Harvest is Plentiful”

July 8, 2007 – Luke 10:1-11,16-20

I remember growing up heading to my grandparent’s place and ending up in, or hiding from, the hay fields. There was always one week, or weekend where the weather was just right, and the hay had been mowed, and was ready to be baled and hauled into the barn. read more…
