“Strength in Weakness”
February 10, 2008, Matthew 4:1-11

Today is the first Sunday of Lent, the time of the year where we are encouraged to look inside ourselves, to reflect upon what the life of Jesus Christ means to us as we walk with him towards Jerusalem, and ultimately the cross. read more…

US Presidential Campaigning = Oodles of Cash

Obama raises $7.2M, Clinton gains $6.4M since Super Tuesday

This on top of the $100 million each raised last year. First… WHERE does this money go? How is it spent? And finally… WHY SO MUCH!?!?

I can’t imagine what the world might look like if all that money were spent on some of the many, many programs around the world to help people in various stages of need.

As someone who works in a church, I can’t quite understand from a stewardship point of view how two people can raise so much money (not to mention all the money each other candidate has raised in their own campaigns), and all they are doing is running for a public office. Seems like a huge waste to me!

Maybe someone out there can enlighten me?

To be a church…

I’ve been thinking a lot lately… a dangerous thing.

One of the topics I’ve been thinking about is the role and effectiveness of rural ministry. It’s interesting to see how clergy are often an important figure in rural communities. Worship by a trained person is important to those who attend the church, visits are more than welcome, often even by those who never “darken the doors of the church.” read more…

Wii as a naptime ritual?

So last fall we bought a Wii, and are having fun with it. We’ve collected some games, we’ve worked up a sweat at times, it’s fun!

endless oceanThe other day, Bev brought home a newly released game… Endless Ocean. An oceanic adventure which allows you to take on some small jobs to advance the storyline, or you can just dive and have some fun exploring the ocean floor. It can be quite relaxing listening to the water, and it has a nice soundtrack as well.

The last couple of days I’ve sat down with my son (and daugther who likes to see the fish) just before nap time, and each time he has nearly fallen asleep in my lap as he watches the game. Amazing! I can’t remember the last time he has fallen asleep on me, probably over a year ago!

So for a $30 game, it’s worth it just for that! But I’m also having fun finding and cataloging new fish and areas of the ocean floor.

A new look

I felt the need to update the site… I had the previous version for over 3 years now.

I love that I was able to find this basic theme where I could just do minor modifications to some of the text and play with a background image by johnny maroun to make it more my own.

Tweaks will continue, but overall I’m very pleased with the new look.

Hey, I needed something to do on vacation 😉
