It’s an interesting collection of parables we’ve heard this morning. First was the mustard seed, then the yeast, a treasure in a field, a pearl salesman, and finally a fishing net. What an interesting collection of stories Jesus has laid before us, and after several weeks where he gave explanations, with these parables we do not get the same courtesy it seems. read more…

“Harvest Time”
July 20, 2008 – Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

There were times when I was growing up when we tended to avoid heading to my grandparent’s places. Usually this was around haying time. Instead of having a relaxing day sitting and talking with family, we’d end up on the back of a truck following a tractor around the field and picking up the hay bales. Hard, dirty work that did not exactly bring about a restful weekend with family and friends. read more…

“Gardening 101”
Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23

Let me share with you this morning a reason why I’m glad I don’t have a house in Fairview. You all don’t have to look at my garden. I’m not a good gardener. I like mowing the lawn, but don’t ask me to care for a garden, or potted plant for that matter. I can manage a lawn mower, it’s a machine, I’m a man, it works. But as for tending to a flower or any other plant fancier than grass, it’s not a good combination. read more…

A brief update

Just dropping a line to say that all is well. Had our annual spiritual retreat with some friends last weekend. It was the fifth, so to commemorate the occasion I wrote a song…

As usual it was a great weekend with friends at the cottage, this year we talked about evangelism and discipleship, had some fireworks, ate too much food (again) and some great fellowship. Can’t wait til next year!
