Sermon Oct. 26-08 “For Love and Promises”
“For Love and Promisesâ€
Deuteronomy 34:1-12, Matthew 22:34-46
I love both the stories from Deuteronomy and Matthew this morning. These are two of my favourite readings from the Bible, on one Sunday in the church calendar!
When I hear the reading of Moses going up onto the mountain, I can’t help but picture it in my mind. Here is Moses, climbing to the top of Mt. Nebo and standing there at it’s peak. Behind him is the desert where he has spent the last 40 years. Before him the lush green of the promised land they have been longing to enter. read more…
Getting Wii-ly fit!
So we bought Wii Fit last week… and I’m impressed.
I’ve managed to get in about 30 minutes of exercise per day so far. At first what was available to me was pretty basic, and I didn’t find I was getting much of a workout. But as you progress, you open new exercises and activities, as well as the ability to increase the intensity of the workout.
Today was probably the first day I felt like I was about to break a sweat, and felt like I had actually worked out to some degree.
I’d like to lose a few pounds over the winter, and I think Wii Fit may help me out in keeping me a bit active. I’ll try and post updates as time goes by. So far, no change in weight, but hopefully time will tell.
I’m in the news!
A reporter came by to look at our new Contemporary Saturday night services! I think it came out alright.
Back in school again
It’s been a while. I haven’t taken a class since December 2006, with a brief exception of one course this summer. Now school is a major focus in my life as I enter my final year.
What I need to remember most in this final year, in the busyness of family, school and church (and hopefully in that order of priority) is that I am doing this for one reason, and one reason only. God has called me to do this. God is equiping me, and I need to continue to let God guide me through this final year.
In this final year before ordination (hopefully!), God needs to continue to be a strong focus in my life. He’s gotten me this far. He’s molded me into someone beyond I ever would have dreamed I would become.
It’s very easy to get caught up in the academic life of an educational institution, but this is more than just a regular institution, this is a place where God needs to be first and foremost everyday because we are learning to be leaders and followers in God’s church!
All the time God is good! And God is good all the time!
A Post-Olympic reflection
A little late I know… but I’ve been out of province for two weeks on a sort of vacation (first week was work, second week was actual vacation).
But I did manage to still see lots of Olympic coverage while away. It was nice to finally see Canada get some well deserved medals after some close calls.
As I reflect on our performance at the Olympics compared to some other countries, and after watching some sports that I really enjoy where Canada was not represented I had to ask myself, “Why did we not qualify in this sport?” read more…
