Sermon, July 1st, 2007

I’m back to preaching every week for the summer. Here’s the first from the first! 🙂

“Living By The Spirit”
July 1, 2007 – Galatians 5:1,13-26, Luke 9:51-62

I love the summer lectionary readings, don’t you? It’s all the really juicy, hard stuff, challenging us with difficult words we might not want to hear. Fun! Well, at least I think it’s fun.

“For freedom Christ has set us free!” This is good news in the opening of our reading from Galatians, so what does it mean? Galatians is a book written by Paul to encourage the church of Galatia to be focused. read more…

“You Opened Heaven’s Gates”

Last night was awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Bev and I went to see Robin Mark in concert. I have never been so fully entertained for $17 than I was last night. Actually, concert is the wrong word. It was 2.5 hours of worship.

The evening started with a performance by Geoff Moore, an singer/songwriter from Nashville. I hadn’t heard of him, but he was very good and very funny!

Then came the Robin Mark. Why was it awesome? Was it the pyrotechnics? Was it the deafening sound system? Was is the dancers?

No… it was 4 people leading worship with nothing more than a guitar, keyboard, flute/whistle, and simple percussion. Lyrics were projected so we could all sing along. He played 4 songs off his new CD (a MUST have!!!), plus the classics “Days of Elijah”, “Revival” and many others. The Holy Spirit was alive and moving among us last night. People were dancing, singing and have a great time praising God together.

We at Two Cents play a number of his songs. The next time we do a song of his live, it will be extra special for me, because it will bring back memories of this amazing night. In fact, I doubt that any performance will be the same for me because of the experience of last night. From now on, I’ll KNOW that God is playing through our music for all the world to hear.

If Robin Mark is coming to play anywhere near you, GO! It will be something you won’t regret.

Sermon, April 22

“Walking a Fine Line”
April 22nd, 2007, Acts 9:1-20

I often wondered what I would preach on after a week like this. A week where all the news is about the senseless killing of innocent people. And we’re left wondering… what does it all mean? How did it happen? Where will it happen next? How could it have been avoided? read more…

Internship news…

It’s been an eventful past week!

It started on Thursday night, really, when I met with people in the church to hand in my resignation. I was on contract until the end of June, but voluntarily stepped aside once news came in that the full-time minister would be coming back May 1. The churches just aren’t big enough for 1.5 ministers. So I felt it best to resign and wish them well.

That said, it was not an easy decision because my four months ther were amazing! The people were fantastic, and I learned a lot of myself in ministry.  I will miss being part of their family a lot.

But on Saturday, after much waiting for phone calls, I found out where I will be on internship in September. We’re heading to Montague, PEI.  We’re quite excited about this, it seems as though it will be a great place to do ministry.

So for now, I begin to explore what will keep me busy between now and when we move!

Easter Sunday Sermon

A shortened sermon for Easter Sunday due to the sheer volume of the service, which is good! Lots of involvement!

“The Tomb is Empty!”
April 8th, 2007, Luke 24:1-12

Leadership magazine had a story about little Philip, born with Down’s syndrome. He attended a third-grade Sunday School class with several eight-year-old boys and girls. Typical of that age, the children did not readily accept Philip with his differences. But because of a creative teacher, they began to care about Philip and accept him as part of the group, though not fully. The Sunday after Easter the teacher brought Leggs pantyhose containers, the kind that look like large eggs. read more…
