Still busy…

but things are going well.

I just finished up a week of worship leadership here at the school with a few other students. We had a good week, of course we used projection (how could I not? 🙂 ). Now that this is done, which took a lot of time and energy, we’ll see what else comes up to take it’s place. I see that papers and assignments are looming on the horizon, so hopefully these “extra” requirements are starting to die down.

Which leads me to a potential new “extra”. I was approached afterwards today by a faculty member if I was interested in giving a workshop on using technology (primarily projection) in worship. I said “sure!” and so we’ll see what he is able to come up with for options on when I might be able to do it. If that goes well, maybe there will be opportunities for taking the workshops on the road a little bit. Could be fun! My supervisor and I have already discussed briefly that this could potentially be my education project in the church. So we shall see where it leads. Hmmm… leads me to do some brainstorming about possibilities as I write this. This could be a LOT of fun!! 🙂

Anyways, Bev is off for a woman’s only day in Mahone Bay tomorrow, so Anna and I get to spend the day together. Just daddy and his little girl. The weather looks good, so we’ll see what we end up doing! It’ll be our last day together for a while as they are both heading out to Bev’s parent’s for a couple of weeks on Sunday after church. Some quiet time for daddy to get some work done I guess.

Well, there’s nothing on TV, suprise surprise. Looks like I’ll have to go read or something!!! *gasp*

Wow… busy!

It’s been a busy first two weeks of school. Hard to believe that I’ve already 30% of my mark in my Systematic Theology course! All that’s left to do is class participation and the take-home final (worth 50%!!!).

So far the classes look like they are going to be interesting. My placement church is going to be very busy this fall, and we’re adding a second short “reflective” service before regular worship. I don’t anticipate a whole lot of added work for that except on the “visual arts” themed morning where we are planning on using projection (technology being a strength of mine). I haven’t really done much in terms of “reflective” services, so I look forward to getting some experience there.

I’m also getting my worship rotation done early, coming up on the week of the 26th. The readings are from Luke that week, and are really good in terms of calling people to discipleship. We really plan on hammering that home with a good, strong sermon that I hope to give on the Monday to kick the week off. I look forward to attempting my first “fire and brimstone” sermon, as others are egging me on to do. It should be a fun week! And yes, we are using projection of course! 😀

Anyways, sorry for the lack of updates. Besides being busy I’ve been really quite tired this past week. But the routine seems to be settling a bit, so hopefully my energy level will pick up.

God bless

Come in and sit down

Today in chapel we sang the hymn “Come In, Come In and Sit Down”, a lovely hymn of reminding people that we are all part of God’s family. Welcoming all to join the family of Christ through his sacrifice.

And here I sit, not sure of where I stand in the church’s eyes. Many times I feel on the outside looking in, not knowing just how welcome I really am. How do I fit into this church? A church in which the doctrine, as stated in the Basis of Union, fits me very well, but the way in which it portrays itself today appears to be a different church.

This year, after only two days of school, I can see that this year will definitely be a turning point for me. How things look in May will most likely heavily impact where I stand in the United Church of Canada. However, I cannot play it safe anymore. I can no longer restrain who I am for the sake of keeping people from feeling uncomfortable. I need to let the Spirit flow, to let God continue molding me into the disciple that He wants me to be.

Where will that lead? Only He knows… but I need to be part of His plan, my soul aches for it.

So, feel free to follow my journey as I chronicle it here. It should be a fun ride! 🙂

Another year begins

The week of busyness is over, and now the term of busyness begins.

Pretty well everyone is moved into residence, and Koinonia week activities have ended. The week was super-busy since I had a hand in both groups of activities. But that’s ok, who needs sleep anyways? 😀

The UCC community had a retreat of sorts where we just went and relaxed Friday night and Saturday by a lake. It was a nice beginning to the term. A chance to rest and prepare ourselves for the coming year, and a chance to reconnect with others, and to connect with new students and returning interns.

I’m looking forward to this year, I see this year as being a huge year for me as I transition into moving from being in my first year to preparing for internship. Also, as a second year student at school, we are pretty much leaders by default in the UCC community.

This year will be a turning point, no doubt.

I’m still here!

Just insanely busy this week. People moving into residence, orientation activities.

Swamped. But after this weekend, hopefully things will be more normal.

God bless
